There are some things that we unconsciously do and it becomes our habit. Only few people realize that our psychological habits could be detrimental and affect our ability to perform with our full capabilities. So what are the habits?
1. Brooding
Having arguments in the office? Stop thinking about it! Simply by replaying the events that makes us feel unpleasant or distress, would affect us negatively. It uses up our intellectual resources and have the power to affect not only our emotional health, but also our physical health. Regular stress could lead to more health problems. Try to distract ourselves from the thoughts, by replacing it with positive ones. Knowing that it is all in the past and we still have a long way to go, will helps us to keep moving forward.
2. Endless guilt
One for all, all for one! Working in a team can be quite complicated at times, especially when we accidentally make a mistake and feels guilty to the whole team. It is even harder when the only thing that we could do is apologizing. However, if is important to address the guilt. If the guilt is not being addressed, it will continue to appear in our mind and distract our cognitive functioning. The only solution is acknowleding that we have tried to address our guilt and it is time to put the feelings behind us.
3. Complaining ineffectively
Often people tell their stories or problem to the person that they are most comfortable with than discussing it with people who could help to resolve them. Each time we tell our frustrating stories, we would feel annoyed and furious which needs a significant processing power. Complaining ineffectively would drain our brainpower and the best way to avoid it is to share your problems effectively. Seek people that could give you a hand, or at least, those that could lend their sincere ears.
4. Overanalysing rejection
Rejection creates emotional distress and affect our self-esteem as we become more self-critical. Look at the situation from a different perspective (always take on the positive side!) and don't let others define who you are. Build yourself up because no one can be you. YOU DO YOU.
5. Worrying
Many people thought their worries are not harmful. Worry creates unpleasant and uncomfortable emotional state, which then distracts us from performing optimally. When we worry about something, it unconsciously becomes our priorities. Addressing the worries would help us to create a solution for it and enable us to perform better.
