There are many ways to enhance productivity without working extra time. We are all unique, so read these tips and try them out to see what works best for you.

Five steps to be more productive without working overtime

1. Avoid Multitasking

Are you an expert at multitasking? Multitasking might not be for everyone. It's necessary to jump from one task to another, but it's bad for productivity.

When our mind keeps focusing on different things, it can slow down and we'll be more prone to error. You'll end up working slower and spend more time correcting mistakes.

Try monotasking. Concentrate on one thing at a time. How do you manage time effectively? Try to establish blocks of time and mark them on your calendar. Assign the time to specific projects and avoid interruptions or distractions to maximise your productivity. This method works well for high-level projects that require concentration and attention. Save smaller and less intensive duties for times when interruptions are unavoidable.

2. Pause

Take a break in between scheduled blocks of working time. Get up from your desk and go take a walk. You'll have the opportunity to step away from your work for a moment and take a breather. If you cannot leave work behind, use the time to brainstorm.

Either way, you should take the time to get up and move. Taking short walking breaks can improve your mood, help you stay alert and fight the health issues associated with sitting for extended periods.

Organising is the key in staying productive.

3. Organise and Prioritise

Take control of your tasks and enhance your productivity by staying organised. Create and implement a transparent organisational system, whether it's inbox/outbox or urgent and non-urgent.

Staying organised will help you identify what projects are on your plate and help you prioritise those items to be the most effective. It can also help you focus as having too many things in your head will only distract you.

4. Create a workspace that encourages productivity

Along with organising, try to create a workspace that helps you to work. Does your desk look messy? Stage an overhaul to clear things out. Throw away everything that is not useful and file the rest away for reference. Place some of your favourite décors in your workspace and you can even add a plant or two. Did you know that looking at desk plants can reduce stress?

Pay close attention to the lighting in your workspace. Natural light can help people be more well-rested, which translates to more energy to get things done during working hours. You can also choose lighter furniture pieces to keep your space from becoming too dark.

If you feel overwhelmed and struggling to tick all the to-do's off your list, try to give one of these ideas a try. You will be surprised to know that a few tweaks can make all the difference in your workday productivity. It will give you the extra time you need to finish all your tasks.
