Today, the Selangor government announced its vaccination programme named Selangor Vaccination Programme (SelVAX), with the primary objective of immunising one million industrial workers in the state against Covid-19.

It said it had completed a deal to acquire 2.5 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine with Pharmaniaga and planned to administer them via two programmes:

  • SelVAX Community, and
  • SelVAX Industry.

SelVAX Industry is open to companies or industries to participate voluntarily. However, employers must cover the participation cost in this programme.

As of today, SelVAX Industry has received registration from 62,000 companies involving 2.9 million employees. Since the initial phase commenced on June 26, 13,000 manufacturing and service sector workers have undergone vaccination with the Sinovac vaccine.

According to Selangor Industry and Trade executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim, SelVAX Industry plans to vaccinate 1,000,000 workers by the end of October.

Priority will be given to manufacturing and services sectors

He said that SelVAX Industry would prioritise the manufacturing and services sectors. Companies and factories with the most workers will be among the top, subject to the acceptance of the offer and its procedures.

He added that the programme would also include a category of SMEs with fewer than 200 workers.

Priority would be given to companies registered and operating in Selangor and Klang Valley and companies in the essential sectors approved by the National Security Council.

Here are the prioritised industries:

How SelVAX Industry will be implemented

Teng explained that a subsidiary of health service provider Selgate, Selcare Clinic, would implement the vaccination programme and issue quotations to employers that have signed up.

Employers that have made full payment will need to upload a list of workers into the system. They will then receive an appointment via the SELangkah app.

The employer will bear the cost of the programme, including service, system, management and vaccination. The employer is not allowed to impose any fees on their workers.

The total cost of the vaccination programme is RM350 per worker for both doses.

These are the five vaccination centres that will implement the SelVAX Industry programme:

  • Evo Mall, Bandar Baru Bangi,
  • Tropicana Gardens Mall, Kota Damansara,
  • Hotel De Palma, Shah Alam,
  • Aurora Place, Bukit Jalil, and
  • PKNS sports complex, Kelana Jaya.

SelVAX Industry will also implement the vaccination process via the workplace vaccination programme, subject to the suitability of the location, and through Selcare panel clinics in Klang Valley and Selangor.

According to Teng, the capacity of these locations can reach a maximum of 40,000 doses per day.
