Deepavali 2025 will fall on Monday, 20 October 2025, and it’s officially a public holiday across most Malaysian states, except Sarawak.

This year, the celebration comes with a five-day cuti sekolah, allowing many employees and families to enjoy an extended festive holiday. Here’s what HR and employers need to know to plan ahead.

Deepavali 2025 Cuti Sekolah Extended to 5 Days

The Ministry of Education (KPM) has confirmed a five-day cuti sekolah for Deepavali 2025, with slightly different schedules for Kumpulan A and Kumpulan B states:

  • Kumpulan A (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu)
Schools will close from 19 to 23 October 2025 (Sunday–Thursday).

  • Kumpulan B (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Sabah, etc.)
Schools will close from 18 to 22 October 2025 (Saturday–Wednesday).

This means some employees, especially parents, may take additional annual leave to extend their holidays.
