The world has changed a lot after COVID-19. Digitalisation and technology have become more important now than ever before. In an effort to help Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises adapt to the new normal, Digi has just released an “HR super app” called altHR.

This app digitalises the regular HR processes and functions as an all-in-one stop for employees for:

  • leave applications,

  • claims submissions,

  • travel requests,

  • access payslips and employee handbooks,

  • And other HR tools.

The app also allows for digital onboarding, making it easier for new employees to settle in with the company.

Digi stated that the company has been using this app for the last three years. The digital workforce management solution includes features that will help Malaysian SMEs to prepare for the “new normal”.

Some of these features include:

  • digital leave tracking,

  • time tracking,

  • sales kits,

  • expense management,

  • and other HR and administrative processes

For employees, they can use the app to pay bills, purchase prepaid top-ups for their phones, and access other essential services.

Since it is an app-based platform, companies do not need to commit to any hardware upgrades and just use a regular smartphone. Digi says that they are planning to integrate even more functionality other than HR processes, which includes retail management, business development, and so on.

The app was first developed to solve Digi’s own needs, according to Digi’s Chief Digital Officer Praveen Rajan. The telco company decided to develop the HR platform themselves after searching the market for the right solution.

According to Digi, the need to digitalise HR processes is one that is widespread with about 8 to10 HR personnel reportedly saying that digital tools are needed to ease workloads. However, many SMEs in Malaysia are still not prepared to digitalise their HR processes as of yet.

According to Digi, altHR is a simple platform that replaces paper-based processes and it does not require any prerequisite IT skills. For now, alt HR is available for free until the 31st of December 2020 for all Malaysian SMEs. However, this app is limited to each company’s first 50 employees. The app is available for on Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS).

Since Digi is classed as a Technology Solutions Provider (TSP) under the SME Digitalisation Grant, eligible companies can apply for a 50% matching grant (up to RM5,000) when subscribing to digital tools and solutions (such as altHR).
