Cyberjaya residents will be able to enjoy food delivery service right at their doorstep with the help of drones by the end of June 2019.
CEO of Average Drone Sdn Bhd, Hamdee Hamdan said that the food will be delivered in 12 minutes once an order is placed. Average Drone Sdn Bhd is a local company involved in the drone industry since 2014.
The company will cooperate with Futurise which is run by Cyberview, a subsidiary firm under the Finance Ministry. Hamdee said the current plan was to have the food delivery service over a trial period of three months.

The food would be delivered within a two-kilometre range of the Futurise building here, Hamdee added. During the trial period, only seven types of food would be offered, such as noodles, rice, burgers, sandwiches, ‘kuih’ and fruits.
“This is just a test run and after three months we will see how it goes and add on more dishes on the menu”, said Hamdee. He added that the company had also created a smartphone app that was still in the final draft, to help customers to order their food.
The duration from the time the order was placed until the time the food reached its destination should take no more than 12 minutes, he said, adding that delivery charges would cost RM2.50 per trip.

“It is not so much about the price, it is all also about the time frame since many want quick delivery. We have developed the drone so that it could be flown during the rain, but not in situations when there are heavy rains”, he said.
Hamdee said that the six-propeller drones, named ‘Express Food’ and manufactured by the company, were able to support a weight of up to 800 grammes.
“If the response is great and the trial run a success, our plan is to then adjust each drone to support a weight of up to three kilogrammes”, he said.
