foodpanda, the on-demand international food delivery service, has recently implemented new employee benefits for 2019.

As of 2019, new fathers at foodpanda Malaysia will be entitled to one month of paid paternity leave. foodpanda is one of the few companies in Malaysia to implement such a benefit.

Additionally, foodpanda will be one of the first in Malaysia to provide their employees with both paid maternity and paternity leave to parents who adopt a child. foodpanda will provide maternity leave of 90 days and paternity leave of 30 days for employees who adopt a child under the age of 5.

foodpanda Malaysia’s Managing Director, Sayantan Das said “foodpanda acknowledges the importance of parents spending quality time to bond with their child. We believe that it is important for both parents to play an active role in the early stages of their child’s life.”

Furthermore, the foodpanda rider fleet will also be entitled to a new insurance policy effective on the 1st March 2019. All active riders will be fully covered up to RM20,000, 24 hours a day. The extensive insurance covers individuals from injuries and accidents, permanent disabilities as well as death.

Parental leave policies in the private sector

In March 2019, Nestlé announced a new maternity policy for adoptive parents and primary caregivers, including a leave package of up to 2019 six months. The new Parental Leave Policy will allow new mothers to receive paid and unpaid maternity leave of up to 180 days. As for new fathers, they are offered a week of paternity leave.

Last year, CIMB introduced six months of paid maternity leave for first-time mothers which took effect on 1st January 2019. The benefit applies to all its employees in Malaysia.

In 2017, in addition to its existing 6-month maternity leave with full pay, Maybank introduced a policy that allows its employees to apply for 3 extra months of maternity leave with half-pay, and a further 6 months without pay.
