This means employers may choose Wesak Day as one of their company’s elective paid public holidays. If it is included in the company holiday list, employees are entitled to a paid day off.

Replacement Holiday for Wesak Day 2026

Since Wesak Day 2026 falls on Sunday, 31 May 2026, some employees may be entitled to a replacement holiday on Tuesday, 2 June 2026 if:

• Wesak Day is included as one of the company’s paid public holidays, and

• Sunday is the employee’s designated rest day

Under Section 60D(1A) of the Employment Act 1955, employers and employees may also mutually agree to replace the holiday with another date.

OT Pay If Employees Work on Wesak Day

Under Section 60D(3) of the Employment Act 1955, eligible employees who work during a public holiday are entitled to additional public holiday pay.

This generally includes:

• Normal daily wages

• Additional public holiday payment

• Overtime pay for extra working hours

Many employers commonly refer to this as “triple pay” for public holiday work.
