Hire NowSavings in Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) are still very important for Malaysians.
After the restructuring in 2024 and updates in Budget 2026, the withdrawal system is now more flexible. However, the main goal of KWSP is still to help Malaysians save enough money for retirement.
Many people still ask:
-
When can withdraw Akaun 1?
-
What can Akaun 2 be used for?
-
Can really withdraw Akaun 3 anytime?
Here’s the simple explanation.
What Is KWSP?
Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) is a social security institution under the Malaysian government.
Every month, employers and employees contribute money into the employee’s KWSP account. This money is saved for future use, especially for retirement.
Besides retirement savings, KWSP members also get benefits such as:
-
Annual dividends
-
Tax relief
-
Disability assistance
-
Death assistance for family members
How Many Types of KWSP Accounts?
1. For Members Below 55 Years Old (3 Accounts)
Your monthly KWSP contribution will automatically be divided into these 3 accounts:
-
Akaun 1 (Akaun Persaraan): 75% of your contribution. Main retirement savings account (usually can only withdraw at age 55 or for selected unit trust investments).
-
Akaun 2 (Akaun Sejahtera): 15% of your contribution. Can use for life needs such as housing, education, healthcare, and age 50 withdrawal.
-
Akaun 3 (Akaun Fleksibel): 10% of your contribution. Can withdraw anytime for any purpose (minimum withdrawal is RM50).

2. For Members Aged 55 Years Old and Above (2 Accounts)
Once you reach 55 years old, your KWSP account system will change:
-
Akaun 55: All savings from Akaun 1, 2, and 3 will be combined here. You can withdraw part or all of your savings anytime.
-
Akaun Emas: If you still work after age 55, new contributions from you and your employer will go into this account. It can only be fully withdrawn when you reach 60 years old.

When Can You Withdraw KWSP Akaun 1 & 2?
Akaun 1
Usually, Akaun 1 can only be fully withdrawn when you reach 55 years old.
However, there are some special situations where withdrawal is allowed, such as:
-
Unit trust investment through Skim Pelaburan Ahli
-
Savings above RM1 million
-
Permanent disability
-
Leaving Malaysia permanently
-
Death
What can be withdrawn? You can refer to the official KWSP website.
Akaun 2
Akaun 2 is more flexible compared to Akaun 1.
You can withdraw money for approved purposes such as:
-
Buying a house
-
Building a house
-
Paying housing loan
-
Education
-
Medical treatment
-
Haji
-
Age 50 withdrawal
Akaun 3
Akaun Fleksibel can be withdrawn anytime.
-
Minimum withdrawal amount is RM50
-
No need to wait until retirement age
This is the easiest KWSP account to withdraw from.
What Employers Should Know About KWSP Withdrawals
Employers should understand basic Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) withdrawal rules because employees may ask questions about:
-
KWSP contribution details
-
Account eligibility
-
Retirement planning
-
Housing or education withdrawals
HR and payroll teams should also encourage employees to regularly check their i-Akaun to monitor their savings and withdrawal eligibility.
Understanding how Akaun 1, Akaun 2, and Akaun Fleksibel work can also help employers answer employee questions more accurately and reduce confusion during payroll or resignation processes.
How Long Does KWSP Withdrawal Take?
If the application is made through i-Akaun, the money will usually go into your bank account within:
-
3 to 7 working days
The actual process may depend on the withdrawal type and submitted documents.
