All distribution trade companies must re-apply for a new MITI letter

According to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP), all distribution trade companies under the ministry's supervision allowed to operate during the total lockdown must re-apply for a new approval letter.

In a statement, KPDNHEP explained that the companies could apply via the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) website. The ministry said that the previous CIMS MITI approval letters are no longer valid.

KPDNHEP also said that only CIMS/MITI approval letters are accepted by all government enforcement agencies to avoid confusion and ensure uniformity.

According to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, only ten essential services under the distributive trade sector are allowed to operate, including supermarkets, petrol stations, pet shops and automobile workshops.

However, the companies' permission to operate is subject to compliance with the National Security Council's (NSC) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

NSC to set up a one-stop centre to issue operation permits

The NSC will establish a one-stop centre to issue operation permits for essential services during MCO 3.0's total lockdown starting today (June 1).

The NSC had a special meeting yesterday to discuss the matter. In a statement, NSC said that MITI would coordinate the one-stop centre.

According to NSC, MITI would issue the letter of permission for the essential services sector after it had received confirmation from the ministries regulating the sector.

Old MITI travel letter still valid until June 3

According to Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid, the police will allow the use of current MITI letters for work-related travels until June 3.

In a press conference, he said many people are still using the old letter.

"Some have said the new ones are still pending, while others have said that they have just applied the night before. So, as per the orders of the state police chief, we will allow the use of the old letters when we inspect cars at our roadblocks until June 3," he said.

He also said that the police had advised them to go through their employers to apply for the latest MITI letter or letter of approval from the relevant ministries. He added that once the grace period ends, the police will proceed to issue compounds.

Police say MITI letter must have a QR code to prevent forgery

Bukit Aman says that MITI's approval letters will now come with a QR code to avoid falsification.

According to Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department SAC (Operations), SAC MV Srikumar M Nair, police personnel will scan the QR code at roadblocks to ensure that the MITI approval letter is authentic.

He says that when someone scans the QR code, it will request a code number, which only the police possess. When the police key in the code number, they will know if the letter tallies with the letter holder.
