Hire NowSME Corp Malaysia and the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Ministry (Medac) are working together to help women entrepreneurs to master e-commerce via the Women Netpreneur programme.
Medac also collaborated with a non-profit organisation, Gorgeous Geeks Malaysia, to enhance digital skills among women entrepreneurs and increase their marketability and income.
During yesterday's virtual launch of the programme, Medac Deputy Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said that women entrepreneurs are essential contributors to the economy and cannot be ignored. She added that it is critical for the ministry to help them, particularly those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Women entrepreneurs contributed over RM69.1 billion to GDP
According to the deputy minister, women entrepreneurs have contributed about RM69.1 billion to Malaysia's GDP, based on the Department of Statistics' Economic Census 2016.
Additionally, women-owned businesses have also generated about 786,132 job opportunities with a combined salary of RM11.1 billion.
Empowering women entrepreneurs
Mas Ermieyati said that Medac is committed to empowering women in Malaysia's economic development and will support the Women Netpreneur programme by focusing on engagement sessions with women entrepreneurs.
As of writing, the Women Netpreneur programme has trained about 2,280 women entrepreneurs. 80% of them have managed to subscribe to online shopping platforms such as Lazada, Shopee and Facebook to market their businesses.
Meanwhile, the chairman of SME Corp Malaysia Datuk Seri Syed Hussien Al Habshee stated that the Women Netpreneur programme is expected to benefit 480 women entrepreneurs.
He said that SME Corp had supported Women Netpreneur via its funds from the Micro Connector. Due to the encouraging response, the Women Netpreneur will continue with the second series from August to November 2021.
Syed Hussein said the Micro Connecter is SME Corp's ongoing initiative in providing early-stage facilitation to help micro-enterprises conduct business more efficiently.
Some of the programmes are designed specifically for women entrepreneurs, such as:
-
e-Commerce training,
