The government is setting up a new initiative called “MalaysiaMudah” (#MyMudah) intended to help companies and businesses which are burdened by red tape and bureaucracy. Minister in the Prime Minister’s (PM) Department (economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the initiative will also lower business expenses and generate jobs while spurring the economy.

He added that PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin observed the matter seriously and has ordered the Economic Action Council (EAC) and the Malaysian Productivity Council (MPC) to intervene and to act as a solutions provider to the matter.

“Company and business owners can forward the red tape issues they face through the Unified Online Public Consultation besides taking part in dialogues which are held by EAC and MPC,” he said in a statement.

He also said issues brought up will be investigated by the Special Task Force to Facilitate Business (PEMUDAH), and escalated to the EAC meetings to be assessed before a decision is made.

“The decision made at the EAC meetings will be implemented by ministries and state governments,” he said. Through this initiative, Mustapa said ministries and state governments will reduce unnecessary rules while improving the efficiency of their functions and operations.

Moreover, he said ministries and state governments are also advised to set clear targets in an effort to reduce compliance costs which are applicable to companies and businesses.

“Pemudah will monitor the performance of every ministry and state government by making periodic reports to the EAC. The Ministry of International Trade and Industry through MPC will also provide guidance and advisory services to all ministries and state governments in implementing this initiative,” he added.

RM10 billion in savings for businesses

The MPC says it expects the #MyMudah programme to generate approximately RM10 billion in savings for businesses, following the reduction in regulatory burden and regulatory compliance costs.

MPC director-general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman said the projection is based on the goal of 25% reduction from an estimated RM40 billion regulatory compliance costs for businesses identified under #MyMudah.

“The #MyMudah programme is conceived as a fast-forward solution to counteract the unprecedented economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis,” he said in a statement.

He added that the programme is a structured and effective strategy that would enhance national regulatory quality in direct response to regulatory challenges faced by businesses and other stakeholders in the wake of the crisis.

"This includes looking at temporarily or permanently abolishing, modifying, waiving or exempting regulations that are unnecessarily burdensome to businesses, as well as reducing the number of procedures and processing time to facilitate ease of doing business,” he said.
