
Op Selamat 14 Launched: RM300 Instant Summons for These Six Traffic Offences

Hire NowMotorists beware! For this upcoming Chinese New Year Holidays, the police have launched Op Selamat 14. The annual traffic safety awareness op starts from 29 January 2019 until 12 February 2019.
Those who break six major traffic laws during this period will receive RM300 instant summons.
These offences include:

Driving in the emergency lane
-
Speeding
-
Queue-jumping
-
Overtaking on a double line
-
Disregarding the traffic lights
-
Using mobile phones while driving
Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the move is meant to educate road users on complying with traffic regulations as well as ensuring the safety of road users during the festive period.

He also said the police is expecting traffic congestion in several locations because of the increase in the number of vehicles during the Chinese New Year holidays. He added that the police will increase the monitoring efforts to control traffic flow and reduce accidents.
City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said police have identified several roads that are accident prone. Pay close attention to these roads:

Middle Ring Road 2

Jalan Sungai Besi

Apart from that the police will also deploy 13 police officers and 186 rank-and-file policemen throughout the op to ensure smooth traffic flow, and increase road safety in the city.
Comm Mazlan said that the number of accidents, summonses issued and deaths had increased from the Chinese New Year Op Selamat in 2017 to the one in 2018.

“There were 2,363 accidents with seven deaths in 2017 and 2,586 accidents with eight deaths in 2018. However, this is expected with the higher number of cars on the roads every year,” he said.
According to Noor Rashid, Malaysia’s traffic accident statistics showed an increase from 20,752 cases in 2017 to 21,041 cases in 2018. The number of summonses issued also marked an increase, from 255,392 in 2017 to 385,547 summonses in 2018.
Noor Rashid also said police will consider PLUS’ suggestion for emergency lanes to be open to all vehicles along two critical routes in Perak for the festive season.
The routes are:

Kilometre 287 to Kilometre 289.95 of the PLUS highway at Simpang Pulai-Gopeng near the Simpang Pulai

Kilometre 367.3 (north-bound) from Slim River to Sungkai.
