Hire NowKUALA LUMPUR, July 23 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced a series of initiatives to help Malaysians cope with the rising cost of living. These include a RM100 cash aid for adults, a RON95 petrol price cut, and an extra public holiday on September 15.
The announcements were made after a Unity Government Secretariat meeting held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night.
RM100 Cash Aid for Adults
The RM100 assistance will be given to Malaysians aged 18 and above, starting August 31. It will be delivered through e-wallets or direct bank transfers. More than 20 million people are expected to receive this financial help.
For employers, this could ease financial pressure on low-income employees and improve morale during challenging times.
RON95 Petrol Price Reduced to RM1.99
The price of RON95 petrol will be reduced to RM1.99 per litre, starting in stages. This move is part of a targeted subsidy programme to benefit the low and middle-income groups.
Companies offering travel allowances or mileage claims are advised to review internal policies to match the upcoming price change.
Public Holiday on 15 September
Anwar also declared September 15 (Monday) as an additional public holiday to celebrate Malaysia Day, giving Malaysians a four-day weekend from September 13 to 16.
Employers are encouraged to update work schedules and plan staffing for operations that run on weekends or public holidays.
More Focus on Jobs and Economy
The government will also continue efforts to improve the job market, with a focus on helping youth and fresh graduates find employment.
This provides opportunities for companies to explore government hiring incentives and participate in job creation programmes.
