Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has announced that 52,000 micro small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that submitted appeals for Prihatin Special Grant 2.0 (GKP 2.0) will receive payments tomorrow (5 February). The amount will be credited directly into their registered bank accounts.

The minister said employers can check the approval status through the GKP website at https://gkp.hasil.gov.my. The payout for the GKP 2.0 appeal involves an allocation of RM155 million.

According to Tengku Zafrul, the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) cross-checked and verified each application with data from relevant government agencies as well as local authorities and the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

The appeal period for GKP 2.0 was from 7 to 21 December 2020.

Both GKP recipients and those whose appeals were accepted made up of almost 900,000 micro SMEs with financial assistance totalling RM2.7 billion. Before this, the government had announced a payout totalling RM2.55 billion for over 850,000 micro SMEs under the two programmes.

Apart from GKP 2.0, struggling businesses will also receive Permai Special Prihatin Grant or GKP Permai.

The minister stated that an additional GKP of RM1,000 was announced for Sabah traders and hawkers with a total allocation of RM50mil. This GKP was expected to benefit 50,000 micro SMEs.

"The government hopes that the direct assistance channelled to these micro SMEs will ease their burden, especially micro SMEs which are heavily affected by the implementation of the Movement Control Order 2.0 (MCO 2.0) or Conditional MCO (CMCO)," he said in a statement.

Under the PRIHATIN Economic Stimulus Package, the government reopened the application for GKP 2.0, a one-off financial assistance amounting to RM3,000 for eligible micro SMEs who have not received the financial aid.

GKP 2.0 aims to alleviate the financial burden of businesses due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and increase production and service productivity for micro SMEs' survival.

Under the previously announced GKP 1.0 and 2.0, over 850,000 micro SMEs nationwide have benefited with total assistance of RM2.55 billion.

Under the Malaysian Economic and Rakyat's Protection Assistance Package (Permai), GKP Permai is allocated for 815,000 SMEs in MCO states with a payment of RM1,000. Meanwhile, 35,000 SMEs that are not under MCO will receive RM500.

The GKP Permai initiative includes an additional allocation of RM830 million, he said.

GKP Permai

The GKP Permai or GKP Plus is a one-off additional financial assistance provided by the government to micro SMEs that have previously received GKP 1.0 and GKP 2.0 assistance.

You do not need to apply for Prihatin Special Grant Plus as this time around the assistance will use the data from the previous GKP 1.0 and 2.0. If you have received GKP 1.0 or 2.0 before, you will not need to apply. For more information, go to https://gkp.hasil.gov.my/

The payment date for GKP Permai will be in March 2021.
