SAP Malaysia, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in the nation in March, continues to develop innovative workplace practices to help further establish itself as one of the industry's preferred employers.

"At SAP Malaysia, as with elsewhere in the world where SAP is represented, we are constantly thinking of ways to continuously position ourselves as an employer of choice, and this includes an employee-centred human resources (HR) work model focused on flexibility," said SAP Malaysia managing director Hong Kok Cheong.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, SAP Malaysia was awarded the 'Best Employer Brand Award' by the Malaysian Institute of Human Resources Management for its continued efforts to attract, retain, and grow talent.

This achievement comes on the heels of SAP being named one of Asia's Best Multinational Workplaces by the Great Place to Work (GPTW) Institute in 2018.

"Pledge to Flex"

The company's most recent human resources initiative is the "Pledge to Flex" work model, which aspires to make a 100 per cent flexible and trust-based workplace the norm, with flexible work schedules and workspaces that prioritise inclusion and sustainability.

Workforce well-being and the workplace are now more important than ever. Hence, SAP Malaysia's new office in MidValley Kuala Lumpur was designed to satisfy new flexible working practices and better serve its diverse customer base.

"As we go on to the recovery phase of this pandemic, SAP is striving to push boundaries in talent recruitment and retention by utilising a data-driven approach in our HR strategy," stated Hong.

"Listening to employee feedback and valuing trust, flexibility, and inclusivity are key factors in adapting HR practices to be more resilient as the company and industry face unprecedented changes in the business environment."

Technology as the focal point of a flexible work approach

Hong also said that technology is at the heart of this flexible work approach, citing the use of technologies such as Qualtrics to understand employee input and SAP SuccessFactors to improve employee experiences. HR operations also make use of cloud platforms to improve operations, save costs, and provide high-quality services.

Intelligent technology, a flexible work environment, and policies are used to improve creativity and teamwork while embracing diversity, establishing a strong community culture, and promoting focused collaboration.

This strategy is also taken by other forward-thinking organisations in Malaysia and around the world, such as Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, which has incorporated SuccessFactors to help elevate human capital management to new heights.

He concluded by stating that the integration of cloud tech with the new trust-based 'Pledge to Flex' work model aims to reimagine the workplace as one that is authentically flexible, inclusive, and responsive to the Malaysian workforce's needs.

"By investing in digital solutions to transform work environments across the company where people can thrive, we hope to create the blueprint for how agile teams can work seamlessly and efficiently in ways that will result in sustainable growth."

The employee-centred effort is simply one of the most recent examples of SAP's organisational integrity in carrying out its purpose of making the world run better and enhancing people's lives.
