The Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme gives real relief to low-income households in Malaysia.

Through the MyKasih system, employees can use their MyKad to buy daily essentials without cash. But not every item in the store is covered. That’s why it’s important for employers to share the official list of approved goods with their staff, so they can use their benefits wisely and avoid confusion at checkout.

Overview of MyKasih Program

The MyKasih programme is part of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiative, designed to help low-income households manage the rising cost of living.

Instead of cash, aid is channelled through MyKad, which acts as a verification tool at participating supermarkets and grocery stores.

To make sure the aid is used for essential needs, only a controlled list of items can be purchased. This ensures that the benefits go directly towards daily necessities such as food, hygiene products, and school supplies.

Employers play a role in sharing this information with staff so they can maximise the support given.

Each approved product will be labelled under MyKasih at the store, and the cashier system will automatically verify if it’s eligible.

Items Not Covered by MyKasih

Not everything can be purchased with SARA aid. Tobacco, alcohol, luxury goods, and non-essential items are excluded.

The reason is simple: the programme is meant to support families with basic needs like food, hygiene, and schooling.

Employers should remind staff that if they try to buy non-eligible items, the transaction will be rejected at checkout.

How Employees Can Check the Approved Item List

Sometimes, employees may worry if a brand is not listed on posters. To make things easier, the MyKasih mobile app allows them to:

  1. Download the app from the official MyKasih website (https://mykasih.com.my/mykasih-app/)

  2. Register as a user.

  3. Use the Check Item feature to scan barcodes or browse the approved product list.

Alternatively, the full list can be found at mykasih.com.my or sara.gov.my.

Easy Way to Use MyKasih for Your Purchases

The buying process can be done as follows:

  1. Choose Essential Items

Recipients can buy daily essentials from 13 product categories marked with the MyKasih label on price tags.

  2. Show MyKad for Verification

The cashier will check the recipient’s MyKad status.

  3. Scan the Item Barcode

The cashier will scan each approved item under the allowed categories.

  4. Pay Using MyKad

Recipients enter their 6-digit MyKad PIN to confirm the transaction.

  5. Keep the Receipt

Recipients should keep the receipt to check their purchase record.

Employer Role in Communication

Employers can help employees make the most of MyKasih benefits by:

  • Sharing updated lists of eligible items regularly.

  • Posting information on company noticeboards, WhatsApp groups, or internal emails.

  • Encouraging employees to plan purchases so they don’t leave balances unused.

  • Reminding them that the redemption period is until 31 December 2025, after which any unused balance will expire.

FAQs

Where can HR find the latest list of items?

The official MyKasih website (mykasih.com.my) and SARA portal (sara.gov.my) provide updated lists and guidelines.

Can employees choose any outlet to redeem?

No. Purchases can only be made at participating outlets such as Mydin, Lotus’s, Giant, Econsave, and 99 Speedmart. The list of stores is available online.

What if an employee claims their purchase was rejected?

Check whether the item is part of the approved list. If it is not eligible, the transaction will be declined automatically by the system. Employees can confirm with the MyKasih app or check with store staff before purchase.
