Hire NowThe Social Security Organisation (Socso) has declared the extension of the submission deadline for the Wage Subsidy Programme (PSU) from June 30 to July 31, 2021.
Socso's Chief Executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed stated the extension was based on the government's move to extend the PSU assistance to all economic sectors affected by the implementation of the full lockdown for another month.
Assistance to be channelled automatically
Mohammed Azman said Socso would channel the subsidy automatically to employers who have applied under PSU 3.0. Employers will only need to update the list of employees before the 15th of the month.
In a statement, he addressed employers who have applied for PSU 1.0 or PSU 2.0 but not PSU 3.0 would need to make a new application.
Wage Subsidy Programme 3.0
The PSU was introduced in April 2020 and helped employers affected by the pandemic during the Movement Control Order (MCO) to proceed to operate without laying off their workers.
On May 31, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the PSU under PEMERKASA Plus involving an allocation of RM1.5 billion. The assistance is estimated to benefit over 2.5 million workers and 200,000 employers.
The one-month wage subsidy programme is limited to 500 employees for each application to Socso. PSU subsidises RM600 for each employee earning RM4,000 and below.

Extension of PSU due to its effectiveness
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan said that the successful implementation of the PSU by SOCSO in rescuing 4.7 million workers and 498,882 employers previously had inspired the government to extend it for another month via PEMERKASA Plus.
He said the effort indirectly provided peace of mind to the people during challenging times following the pandemic, besides helping employers retain their workers and stay afloat in the affected economic sectors.
In a statement, he said that the Ministry of Human Resource would continue to be committed to ensuring the PEMERKASA Plus' initiatives can be realised and further benefit the targeted groups.
Employer group welcomes Pemerkasa Plus aid package
The president of the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF), Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman, said the PSU reintroduction, targeted credit facility for SMEs, automatic loan moratorium for affected business and individuals, the exemption of statutory payments and moratorium will ease some of the pressures on employers.
