In keeping with the norm of his predecessors, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim begged Malaysians not to call him by his paternal nickname.

The Tambun MP responded to a Twitter user's remark, "Good morning, papa", under his tweet against Malaysian elites and politicians' corruption.

Anwar did not appreciate the greeting and responded, "Please don't do that."

Former Malaysian prime ministers were given parental nicknames; hence, it is possible that Anwar does not wish to be identified with monikers of a similar type.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the eighth premier of Malaysia, referred to himself as "Abah," a variation of the Malay word for "father."

Muhyiddin maintained the moniker throughout his campaign for the 15th General Election (GE15).

In addition, the ninth Malaysian prime minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, was given the paternal nicknames "Pak Long" and "Tok Mail." Typically, these nicknames are reserved for the eldest uncle in the family.

The nicknames were given to Ismail Sabri due to his administration's "Keluarga Malaysia" theme.

How to address your leader with respect

Historically, employees were expected to use particular forms of address when speaking to their employers. In the 21st century, it may appear as if there are no restrictions, as these criteria have eased throughout time. Unwritten norms exist, although they vary from firm to company and scenario to circumstance. If you are too formal, you may appear distant or frightened, yet if you are too informal, you may seem pretentious.

Heed what your coworkers are saying

Consider what your coworkers have to say. But only some coworkers. In many otherwise staid workplaces, one or a few employees may be permitted to address the boss in ways no one else can. Sometimes these titles for the boss are a bit "odd," and sometimes they are unsuitable, such as "huge man" or more outrageous: "hello, good-looking."

Call that person the employer's favourite, but something between them makes this acceptable. Perhaps they've known one another for a long time; they were previously married, or maybe the boss appreciates his certain employee's endearingly behaviour. The point is that this individual can address the boss in ways you cannot. Instead, focus on how the majority of long-tenured employees address their boss. Regardless of whether they refer to him as "Anwar," "Mr.," "Sir," or "boss," you should follow suit.

Ways around the first name problem

Simply asking your employer's executive assistant is a smart approach to determining your employer's preferred address. Executive assistants are the key to success in the business sector because they know the proper approach.
