Which Malaysian Laws Govern Equal Employment Opportunity?

Malaysia has several laws to make sure all employees are treated fairly at work.

These laws follow EEO principles, which are global rules that promote fair treatment in hiring, promotions, and workplace policies. 

EEO principles aim to stop discrimination based on things like race, gender, religion, disability, or age. Here’s how Malaysian laws support these ideas:

  • Employment Act 1955: Ensures fair treatment and good working conditions for employees. 

  • Industrial Relations Act 1967: Protects employees from being unfairly fired or discriminated against at work. 

  • Persons with Disabilities Act 2008: Requires companies to give fair job opportunities and proper support for employees with disabilities. 

  • Federal Constitution (Article 8): Guarantees equal rights under the law and bans discrimination based on religion, race, ancestry, or birthplace. 

Together, these laws help create fair workplaces in Malaysia, making sure everyone gets the same opportunities and is treated with respect just like EEO principles encourage worldwide.
