History of SAG
Launched in June 2020, the SAG was part of the government's initiative to extend support for SMEs to take the digital leap and enhance their digital capabilities.
According to Aiza Azreen, the chief digital business officer of MDEC, MDEC introduced the SAG to help SMEs in the services sector survive and thrive in today's disrupted business world. She said that the grant provides businesses with the support they need to impact their operations and income generation positively.
Success stories
According to MDEC, the #SMART Automation Grant had witnessed numerous successful implementations. For example, insurance company Untung Sewajar Sdn Bhd used the grant to help the company develop the Multi-Tasking Insurance Online System. The system helps insurance agents to manage customer data, marketing activities and customer service online.
Another firm, Bunga Raya Travel Sdn Bhd, also utilised the grant to create an e-commerce website with online solutions for social media optimisation and search engine optimisation techniques.
The latest round of SAG applications will be open for four weeks. Applicants can check the eligibility requirements and register their interest on MDEC's website.
MDEC also encouraged SMEs in the services sector to participate in its capability-building programmes such as the SME Digital Accelerator Programme and 100 Go Digital Coaching. These programmes will better equip SMEs to implement a structured approach for their operations, and identify possible weaknesses and opportunities in the digital space.
