Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the registration process for COVID-19 vaccination for the public would begin on March 1. According to him, there are five methods for the public to obtain COVID-19 vaccination, two of them are online, and the rest are manual registration.

Based on the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme Handbook, the two online methods are:

  1. Through the MySejahtera application.
  2. Through the unique website at www.vaksinCovid.gov.my

As for the manual registration methods, the public can:

  1. Contact a special hotline, which the government will inform later.
  2. Visit the public and private health facilities.
  3. Participate in outreach programmes for residents in remote and rural areas.

The handbook also states that appointment information like the date and place of vaccination will be notified through MySejahtera application, phone calls or SMS. According to the handbook, the vaccination process for people who register online and manually is the same. The vaccination process has 18 steps.

Those who receive a single-dose vaccine will finish the process at step 9 and be given the Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Immunisation Certificate.

Those who wish to register for the vaccination programme online can do so at www.vaksinCovid.gov.my

More about the vaccine

The two-dose vaccines are from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac Life Sciences Co Ltd (Sinovac) and CanSinoBIO. Meanwhile, the single-dose vaccine is from Sputnik V.

Recently, Malaysia has access to 6.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines via the COVAX Facility and early purchases from five vaccine manufacturers. Starting this month, Malaysia will receive the vaccine supply from the five manufacturers.

Those who experience side effects can lodge a report at the nearest health facility or through MySejahtera application or the ConSERF NPRA report portal. According to Dr Noor Hisham, if there were side effects of vaccine use, the Ministry of Health (MOH) would record and report it to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

According to the DG, MOH had been preparing for the COVID-19 vaccination programme since August 2020, which also included the provision of infrastructure to assure that the vaccine was received and stored safely.

He said that every vaccine approved for use was based on a study that had been conducted, where the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) would look at the three-phase vaccine study data, covering effectiveness and safety.

The second phase will include Covid-19 high-risk groups, such as senior citizens, vulnerable individuals with comorbidities and disabled persons. This phase will begin from April until August, involving about 9.4 million people.

The final phase of the programme will include adults aged 18 and above, who will be given the injection from May 2020 until February 2021, running simultaneously with the second phase.
