
348 Complaints of Wage Subsidy Abuse Received by Socso

Hire NowThe Social Security Organisation (Socso) has received about 348 complaints linked to the misuse and fraudulent claims of the wage subsidy scheme (PSU) fund. The scheme is under the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) package.
Socso's chief executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed stated that 269 of all the complaints had been settled, while three complaints were referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). The other 79 cases were still under investigation.
The chief executive said that Socso made the payments from May to October 2020.
Thus far, Socso had made payments amounting to RM13.5 billion to employers eligible to receive the assistance. He added that Socso is committed to ensuring that the government's financial assistance is appropriately channelled according to the set conditions.

Mohammed Azman said that Socso was continually monitoring the applications submitted by employers and would not hesitate to report to the authorities if they detected fraud or abuse elements.
He said that Socso once again warned employers to be honest in sending in PSU applications. Employers who failed to fulfil the stipulated conditions have been asked to return the PSU payment they received.
He said that they could make repayment to MAYBANK account number 564427515459 (PERKESO SIP-Bayaran) with the reference "PSU refund". Employers need to fill in the PSU/ ERP assistance repayment agreement form and send it to Socso along with proof of repayment via e-mail to sip.payment@perkeso.gov.my.
Two suspects detained by MACC for fake documents in PSU applications
Among the three complaints referred to the MACC for further action is the arrest of two private companies' directors yesterday. Their arrest is connected to false claims of PSU amounting to nearly half a million ringgit.
In a statement, he said that the MACC is still investigating the individuals involved and will issue any further statement after completing the investigation.
The individuals from two companies located in Segamat, Johor are suspected of having given fake documents for PSU applications under the PENJANA.
Yesterday, the MACC detained the two individuals at the Johor MACC Segamat branch office to help with the investigation of false PSU claims involving a 39-year-old company directed who submitted a claim for 52 workers. The claim involves a wage subsidy payment of RM282,600.
The other suspect was a 64-year-old man, who submitted a fraudulent PSU claim for 38 employees and involving a payment of RM195,600.
